Hi there. Been a while. As is becoming usual, eh? An eventful absence it was too.

Meanwhile, last year ended in a slam-bang tsunami that ensured that the vocabulary of a large part of the world’s population is enriched with at least one more word – albeit Japanese.

In celebration of the past year, here’s Time’s best and worst of the year. Zhang Yimou, Scorsese and Eastwood. There’s even Michael Mann’s Collateral, which, at a screening at Little Shenoys for a sparse audience, belied my enthusiasm for this American film maker. I found it stylish, obvious, clich├ęd and hollow.
